If there’s one experience that defines a visit to Bergen, it’s riding Fløibanen — the iconic funicular that climbs from the city centre up to Fløyen (320 m above sea level) in just ~6–8 minutes. The ride itself is part of the charm, with the hillside sliding past and glimpses of Vågen harbour and colourful Bryggen buildings as you ascend.
🎟️ 2026 Prices & Tickets
Tickets can be bought online in advance (recommended to skip queues), via the app, at machines, or at the ticket office in the city: Fløibanen app is the easiest and fastest way to enable you to board the funicular train.
Winter (Jan–Mar & Oct–Dec): Return tickets ~ NOK 145 for adults, NOK 75 for kids (4–15), seniors ~ NOK 100.
Summer (Apr–Sep): Return ~ NOK 200–220 for adults, kids ~ NOK 100–120. One‑way fares are available too.
Bergen Card holders get about 50 % off return tickets (digital card must be redeemed at the ticket office).

Fløibanen funicular: Typically runs from early morning until midnight — around 07:30 – 00:00 most days.

🌄 What to Expect at the Top
🏞️ Panoramic Views
At the summit you’ll find Fløyen Panorama, and on clear days the vista is breathtaking — panoramic views of Bergen’s rooftops, fjords and mountains in all directions. It’s a favourite for sunset shots, picnics, and wide‑open views that are easy to access even with kids.
☕ Food, Drink & Places to Relax
Once you’re up there, there are a few great places to sit, eat and soak up the atmosphere without descending immediately:
Fløirestauranten – A historic restaurant with views, classic Norwegian dishes and a long local legacy (it turned 100 in 2025 and is a loved Bergen landmark).
Fløistuen kafé – Casual café for coffee, snacks and panoramic terrace seating.
Skomakerstuen Café – A cosy spot with simple fare (hours vary seasonally).
Both spots are great for a leisurely lunch or a fika break while watching clouds drift over the fjords.
🥾 Activities & Things to Do at Fløyen
The summit area isn’t just for photos — it’s a real outdoor playground:
Walking & hiking trails of various lengths and difficulty levels.
Playgrounds and nature play areas that kids love.
Small lakes and picnic spots where families hang out in summer.
Canoe or paddleboard rentals on Skomakerdiket lake (weather dependent).
Guided walks and seasonal events on the mountain.
Many visitors also choose to walk up or down parts of the trail system for exercise or scenic variety, especially on clear evenings.
📌 Tips Before You Go
Buy tickets in advance if you’re visiting during peak tourist times — queues can get long.
Weather changes fast in Bergen — bring layers and waterproof gear, especially if you plan to explore trails at the top.
Even if visibility is low, the funicular ride and cafes still make it worth a stop.
For a quieter experience, aim for early morning or late evening — sunrise views are magical!
Enjoy,
Billy
