Bergen Bybanen Line 1 Closures: How to Get to the Airport This Summer

If you're visiting Bergen this summer, you may notice that Bybanen Line 1 isn't running all the way between the city centre and Bergen Airport as usual.

The good news? Getting to the airport is still straightforward thanks to replacement buses and the light rail.

What's Closed?

From 29 June to 26 July 2026, maintenance work means Bybanen Line 1 is suspended between Byparken (city centre) and Slettebakken. The section between Slettebakken and Bergen Airport (Flesland) continues to operate normally.

Is There a Replacement Bus?

Yes. Skyss is operating a dedicated 1B replacement bus throughout the closure.

For most visitors heading to the airport, the easiest route is:

  1. Make your way to Bergen Bus Station, next to Bergen Railway Station.

  2. Board the 1B replacement bus to Lagunen Terminal.

  3. Follow the signs to the Bybanen platform.

  4. Catch Line 1 towards Bergen Airport (Flesland).

It's an easy transfer, and the light rail continues directly to the airport from Lagunen.

How Often Does the Replacement Bus Run?

The 1B replacement buses operate:

  • Every 10 minutes from early morning until around 10:00 pm (approximately 8:30 pm on Sundays).

  • Every 15 minutes later in the evening.

  • Journey time between Bergen Bus Station and Lagunen is around 15 minutes.

How Long Does the Journey Take?

Although the transfer adds a few minutes, travel to the airport remains simple.

Typical journey:

  • Bergen Bus Station → Lagunen (1B bus): 15 minutes

  • Transfer to the light rail: 2–5 minutes

  • Lagunen → Bergen Airport (Bybanen): around 20 minutes

Allow approximately 40–50 minutes from the city centre to the airport, depending on connections.

Ticket Prices

The replacement bus is included in your normal Skyss ticket—there is no extra charge.

For travel within Bergen (Zone A):

  • Adult single ticket: approximately NOK 51

  • The same ticket is valid on both the replacement bus and the Bybanen.

  • Buy your ticket before boarding using the Skyss app or a ticket machine.

Other Options

If you'd rather avoid changing transport, you can also consider:

  • Flybussen (Airport Express Bus) – Direct service between Bergen city centre and the airport in around 20–30 minutes, although it's more expensive than public transport.

  • Bus routes 67 and 600 – These also connect Lagunen with Bergen Bus Station during the closure.

Final Tips

If you're travelling to the airport during the closure:

  • Head to Bergen Bus Station.

  • Take the 1B replacement bus to Lagunen.

  • Transfer to Bybanen Line 1 for the final leg to Bergen Airport.

The transfer is well signposted, replacement buses run frequently, and the journey remains one of the most affordable ways to reach Bergen Airport.
