UPDATE 1/6/2026
Update: Good news – the hospitality strike in Norway has now ended following an agreement between the parties. While we've kept this article online for anyone looking for background information, the situation described below is no longer current, and normal operations have resumed across the industry.
The hospitality strike in Norway is continuing to affect Bergen, with hotels, restaurants, bars, and catering operations all seeing disruptions. The dispute centers on wages and sick-pay guarantees, and the strike has expanded several times since April.

Hotels currently most affected in Bergen
Several major chain hotels have either closed temporarily or are operating with reduced services:
Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Bergen — one of the best-known Bergen hotels reported major disruption and was among the properties forced to close or sharply reduce operations during parts of the strike.
Home Hotel Havnekontoret — remains open, but Strawberry Hotels says some services and facilities may be reduced. (strawberryhotels.com)
Prize by Radisson, Solheimsviken Bergen — open, though Radisson has warned guests that hospitality services across Norway may be limited during the strike. (Radisson Hotels)
Magic Hotel Bergen City Center, a member of Radisson Individuals — operating, but subject to reduced staffing and possible service limitations. (Radisson Hotels)
Hotels operating with reduced services
Several hotel groups have confirmed they are staying open but with cutbacks:
Scandic hotels in Bergen, including properties like Scandic Ørnen, remain open but have adjusted breakfast service, housekeeping schedules, restaurant hours, and staffing levels. (Scandic Hotels)
Strawberry group hotels say restaurants, spas, bars, and room cleaning may have shorter opening hours or temporary closures. (strawberryhotels.com)
Thon Hotels has also warned of reduced hotel services and temporarily unavailable facilities at some locations. (Thon Hotels)
Restaurants and bars affected
The strike is not limited to hotels. Many hospitality venues in Bergen have seen shorter hours, reduced menus, or staffing shortages.
Some well-known venues currently still operating include:
AS Bryggestuen - Bryggeloftet
Brasilia Bergen
Pingvinen
The Unicorn Fish Restaurant
Marg & Bein
Folk & Røvere
No Stress Bergen
LAST monkey
Magic Ice Bar
Lampemannen Bar
However, unions and Norwegian media report that many restaurants and bars connected to hotel chains or tourism-heavy areas are running with reduced staffing, limited menus, fewer housekeeping staff, or shorter operating hours.
Please note some bars restaurants and hotels arent listed above and they also have temporary staff or closures. Please check your hotel company website.
Wider impact around Bergen
The strike has expanded beyond hotels and nightlife venues:
Airport and conference catering services have been disrupted.
Employee cafeterias and industrial canteens are now involved in parts of western Norway.
Tourists in Bergen have reported last-minute cancellations and reduced breakfast and cleaning services at hotels.
Current situation
As of this week, most Bergen hospitality businesses are still open in some form, but travelers should expect:
reduced restaurant hours,
slower service,
limited hotel housekeeping,
fewer breakfast options,
temporary closures of bars/spas/restaurants inside hotels.
The situation is changing daily as negotiations continue between unions and NHO Reiseliv.
Please check with your hotel or the customer service of the hotel chain.
