“There’s no bad weather in Bergen, only bad clothing”
So, you’re coming to Bergen in late summer or early autumn? First of all – welcome! Second – let’s talk about clothes, because here in Bergen the weather loves surprises. One moment you’ll be sipping coffee in the sun, the next you’ll wonder if you accidentally walked into a waterfall.
👕 Layers are your best friend Think of dressing in Bergen like making a sandwich: base layer, something cozy in the middle, and a protective top. That way you can peel off or add on depending on what the weather throws at you.
🧥 Rain gear = survival gear There’s a saying here: “If you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes.” But while you wait, you’ll need a good waterproof jacket. Umbrellas? They’re cute until the wind flips them inside out. Locals swear by raincoats.
👖 Comfort is king Jeans work, but if you’re exploring, quick-dry trousers are golden. That way you don’t spend half your holiday waiting for laundry to dry.
👟 Shoes you can trust Bring waterproof shoes or sturdy trainers. Slippery cobblestones and sudden puddles are part of the Bergen experience.
🧣 Evening chill It can get nippy in the evenings, so a light scarf or hat can be surprisingly handy.
🎒 Local tipCarry a backpack with a small umbrella, water bottle, and maybe a dry bag for your phone or camera – because you’ll want to snap pictures even in the rain!
In short: dress like the weather will change every 10 minutes (because it probably will). Do that, and you’ll be ready to enjoy fjords, mountains, and Bryggen’s charm without missing a beat.
